French forged lantern clock
Description
Sturdy iron clock from North-West France with beautifully decorated corner pillars and a beautifully simple engraved brass dial with Roman numerals. One steel hour hand indicates the time. The timepiece is powered by iron weights on cords. The going train is regulated by a hook-anchor escapement with a long pendulum. It strikes the hours determined by the disc on the back of the timepiece. The half hours are indicated by a single stroke and there is a special mechanism to switch it off manually.
