Miniature Friesland stoel clock

The painting restorer has carefully removed all the later layers of paint and subsequently recreated the scenes on the dial on the basis of the remains of the original painting and documentation of similar depictions.

The movement has verge escapement with a short fixed pendulum. Because of the large amplitude the clock is not very sensitive to rocking movements and therefore suitable to be hung in the captain’s cabin aboard ships, hence the Dutch name: schippertje (‘little sailor’). The half-hour striking is controlled by a count wheel and the clock also has a weight-driven alarm. The clock was fully restored.
