English stick barometer
Description
Mahogany stick barometer with a mercury tube for the air pressure and a liquid thermometer.
Nicely finished stick with finely inlaid piping. On top is an open tympanum with a turned brass pinnacle. Underneath a wooden glass door that shows and protects the brass engraved and silvered scale plate. On the scale plate you can read the air pressure in English inches (28 – 31). The sliding trend pointer shows how much the barometric pressure has risen or fall from the previous observation that aligned the pointer with the mercury level. At the bottom of the stick is a removable round-turned wooden hood for enclosing the mercury reservoir.
